How do WEBppliance name-based domains differ from IP-based domains?

WEBppliance supports name-based domains with similar functionality to IP-based domains. Support includes detailed bandwidth tracking and FTP access. The only reason to need an IP Based site is for a site that requires a dedicated SSL Certificate.

Does WEBppliance include a Command Line Interface?

Yes, WEBppliance includes a Command Line Interface (CLI) for performing mass updates or further customization.

What about root (super-user) access?

A Private Server gives you the option of full root access, just like a dedicated server.

Who is responsible for keeping security patches up to date for the Private Servers and pre-installed software?

Remarkable Hosting will make all patches and install them when they are available and tested in our lab. We will notify you in advance before patches are applied with information on the changes.

Do you backup up the servers, how often?

We do weekly FULL and daily incremental backups to a NAS device. Backups are for disaster recovery.

What about DNS, can I run my own DNS and have ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com?

There are several options for DNS.

Use the Remarkable Hosting DNS servers, ns.remarkablehosting.net/ ns1.remarkablehosting.net and manage your domains through the Remarkable DNSPro Manager

Run Bind on your Appliance and have ns1.yourdomain.com/ns2.yourdomain.com and manage the domains through the DNS Service Manager.

Use the Remarkable Hosting DNS Servers and alias your name servers to IP Address we provide on our DNS Servers and manage your domains through the Remarkable DNSPro Manager.

Can you tell me more about private server technology?

Remarkable Private Servers are based on the Ensim Corporation patent-pending virtualization technology that partitions Linux servers into multiple Private Servers. Each Private Server operates in the same way as a dedicated server and is secure and isolated from all other Private Servers.

Private Servers are isolated in terms of performance, function, fault, and address.

Performance Isolation - heavy traffic and CPU load on one Private Server will not have a negative effect on the other Private Servers

Functional Isolation - each Private Server has its own set of applications and services

Fault Isolation - errors created in a Private Server will not affect other Private Servers. For example, a bad CGI script can crash a server, but with Ensim's fault isolation, only the Private Server with the script will be affected

Address Isolation - each Private Server has its own set of IP addresses.
